Access Unlocked Monday October 23, 2023 Thirty (30) people were injured and two (2) others dead following a 100 vehicle pileup on Interstate 55 in Louisiana, due to fog and smoke from two (2) marsh fires.
According to reports three (3) eighteen (18) wheelers were also involved in the incident, with two (2) of the truck going up in flames.
Three (3) of the victims who were taken to North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond or listed in critical condition.
Traffic backed up for miles in both directions on I-55 near the community of Manchac. The lack of visibility also prompted closures of parts of I-10 and the 24-mile Lake Pontchartrain Causeway at times.
