Plano Emerges as Leading Option for Future Dallas Stars Arena

Access Unlocked Tuesday June 2, 2026 The Dallas Stars may have a new home after their lease at the American Airlines Center ends in 2031. While the team has not made a final decision, Plano is emerging as the strongest option for a future move.

One site drawing serious attention is The Shops at Willow Bend. The aging mall could be transformed into a major arena and mixed-use development, giving the Stars a modern home in a growing part of North Texas.

Reports say the city of Plano and the team have been discussing the idea for more than a year. The proposed project could cost around $1 billion and include far more than just an arena, such as entertainment, dining, and other new development around the site.

If the plan moves forward, it would mark a major change for the region. A move to Plano would shift one of Dallas’ most prominent sports franchises away from downtown and into a new district built for the future.
