Dallas–Fort Worth, TX — August 18, 2025
This past weekend in the Metroplex was one for the
books. From Dallas to Arlington to Fort Worth, the
culture was alive and thriving, proving once again that
North Texas isn’t just a hub for sports and music—it’s the
heartbeat of Southern entertainment. If you weren’t
outside moving around, you missed a star-studded
weekend that had the streets talking.

BIG3 Playoffs: Dallas Shines as a Sports City
On Sunday, the BIG3 Playoffs touched down at the
American Airlines Center in Dallas, cementing the city’s
reputation as a true sports capital. Fans were treated to
hard-hitting matchups, highlighted by Miami 305’s
narrow 50-47 victory over Dallas Power. Michael Beasley
and Lance Stephenson put on a show with double-
doubles, while Greg Monroe and Paul Millsap carried the
Power in front of a fired-up hometown crowd.
But the real flavor came off the court. The Celebrity
Game brought out names like Dez Bryant, Chad
“Ochocinco” Johnson, Gillie Da Kid, Wallo 267, Symba,
and Toosii. Dallas’ own BigXthaPlug and rising star
Flippa T delivered live performances, while Ice Cube kept
the energy high with fans. The building shook when
Shaquille O’Neal and Mark Cuban made surprise
appearances—sealing Dallas’ reputation as a booming
entertainment market that commands national attention.
Texas Fest: A Celebration of Texas Rap History
Saturday night, all roads led to Texas Hall in Arlington for
Texas Fest 2025, a celebration of Southern rap royalty.
The lineup was nothing short of legendary: Bun B, Paul
Wall, Z-Ro, Lil’ Keke, Devin The Dude, and a

hometown-shaking reunion from the DSR (Dirty South
Rydaz) crew—Big Tuck, Tum Tum, Fat B, and Lil’
Ronnie.
The energy was unmatched as Texas unity took center
stage, with western attire and Black Cowboy-inspired
vibes filling the room. Anthems that defined eras—“Still
Tippin,” “Mo City Don,” “Southside,” and DSR’s local
classics—had the building rocking from start to finish.
The night did take an unexpected turn, however, as DJ
Michael “5000” Watts—one of the most respected names
in Texas music—was suddenly hospitalized and unable to
take the stage. Stepping up in his absence, Mr. Hit Dat
commanded the night as DJ and Master of Ceremony,
setting the tone for the city and making sure the show
carried on with the same Texas pride and energy fans
came for. His presence and energy elevated the crowd,
proving that the spirit of Texas Fest was bigger than any
setback.
The crowd’s reaction to the DSR Reunion proved just
how strong the Dallas rap legacy remains, bridging
generations and reminding the world that Texas rap
history is both deep and alive.
817 Day Block Party: Fort Worth Comes Together
On Sunday afternoon, Fort Worth’s East Berry Street lit
up for the 817 Day Block Party, a community celebration
that showed the soul of Funkytown. Powered by 97.9 The
Beat, with DJ Big Bink and DJ TDK ripping up the 1’s
and 2’s, the block was filled with music, dancing, and
family fun.

The event had everything: food trucks serving up Fried
City’s comfort eats, Messy Bestie’s lemonade, Boneyard
BBQ, and Kai Treats shaved ice; bounce houses and
games for the kids; giveaways and prizes for the crowd.
Local pride ran deep with performances from Bag Baby
Tay and a music video shoot featuring Johnnie Damn D
and Fort Worth legend Twisted Black. The turnout,
stretching across Fort Worth, Arlington, and Grand
Prairie, was a testament to community love, safe fun, and
Funkytown pride.
A Weekend to Remember
Three days. Three cities. Three unforgettable events.
Dallas brought the stars out with the BIG3 playoffs.
Arlington reminded the world why Texas rap reigns
supreme, even in the face of challenges. And Fort Worth
closed the weekend with a block party that embodied
community and culture.
From Shaq and Ice Cube in Dallas to Bun B, Paul Wall,
and Z-Ro in Arlington, and Twisted Black shutting down
Fort Worth—the Metroplex proved it’s not just on the
map, it’s setting the standard.
If you weren’t there, you truly missed it. The DFW
Metroplex just showed the nation that when it comes to
sports, music, and culture, we’re built different.
