News Now: Food poisoning spreading throughout the United States

March 7, 2015 – International travelers are bringing back a multi-drug resistant strain Shigella. Shigella is a bacteria which causes bloody and watery diarrhea which impacts approximately fivefood hundred thousand (500,000) people annually.  The outbreak of Shigella has been linked to contaminated food and water.

According to shigella infections are caused by the bacterium passing from stools or soiled fingers of one person to the mouth of another person.
