Access Unlocked Monday April 6, 2026 MIDLOTHIAN, Texas — Midlothian police say 37-year-old Mark Robert Nienhuis was arrested after a shooting Sunday that injured his 11-year-old daughter. Officers were called to the 400 block of Brook Meadow Drive after reports of shots fired inside and outside a home; police said Nienhuis allegedly argued with family members, retrieved a handgun from his truck and fired at the house, striking the child in the leg, then left and returned a short time later, when he exchanged gunfire in the front yard with an armed son, damaging nearby homes and vehicles.

Police said officers arrived about 7:17 p.m. and found Nienhuis holding a knife; after refusing commands to drop it, he stabbed himself in the neck. The Midlothian Fire Department treated Nienhuis and the girl and took them to the hospital; police said he remains in custody at an undisclosed hospital in serious condition. He faces one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury and eight additional counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; police said the second shooter will not be charged because investigators believe he acted in defense of himself and his family. The girl was taken to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas and was released Monday, and the investigation is ongoing.
