July 14, 2015 – On Monday New York City and the family of Eric Garner reached a 5.9 million dollar settlement. Garner’s murder by New York City police officers was caught on tape July 17 2014. The video shows Garner
standing on a corner unarmed in Staten Island as officers accused him of selling cigarettes. Garner was wrestled to the ground and placed in a choke hold, which is prohibited by NYPD. The victim could be heard multiple times telling the officers he could not breath. The Coroner’s office did rule Garner’s death a homicide.
