In 1984, Duvall won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Tender Mercies. Over the course of his distinguished career, he also received Academy Award nominations for The Godfather, The Great Santini, The Apostle, Apocalypse Now, A Civil Action, and The Judge.
Duvall earned additional acclaim in television, winning two Emmy Awards in 2006 for Broken Trail. He received honors for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, as well as for Outstanding Miniseries.
Robert Duvall died at his home in Middleburg, Virginia, surrounded by his wife, Luciana Duvall.
