Access Unlocked Wednesday June 8, 2016 – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning, confirming over-the-counter aspirin containing antacid products to treat heartburn, sour stomach, acid indigestion, or upset stomach, may cause internal bleeding.
According to the FDA, there is a warning label placed on the product, which identifies bleeding as a side effect.
Below are the factors which the FDA considers to be high risk:
- Are 60 years or older
- Have a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding problems
- Take a blood-thinning or steroid medicine
- Take other medicines containing NSAIDs such as ibuprofen or naproxen
- Drink three or more alcoholic drinks every day
